Sofa Regeneration

Despite COVID-19 & Home Office Chair Deliveries, GGMS Head Seamstress and her workshop team still find time to regenerate sofas for one of our major UK clients.

Entering into her 10th year with GoGreen Managed Services, Head Seamstress Lesley Davies is no stranger to a challenge. However, when COVID-19 struck she was thrust into the day to day operations of ensuring that thousands of Home Office Chairs reached client employee’s homes completely Covid-free. This meant that her normal remit of WorkshopRegeneration on selected re-use items of furniture was put somewhat on the back burner.

Once normality(ish) resumed, there was still an order to fulfil for our client. Eight cream leather Boss sofas seemed to have reached close to the end of their lifespan, and GGMS were asked whether they could regenerate them and afford the sofas a new lease of life! “Yes”, was the answer and the team set about stripping the sofas, cutting fabric templates and sewing it all back together to create a finished product that is as good as brand new.

Of this regeneration project, Lesley said, “COVID-19 definitely threw the workshop team a curve-ball because the production line stopped immediately, and we were all pulling together on the Home Office Solutions project to clean the chairs. That being said, we’ve enjoyed getting back to normality with this project, and for me that’s being on the sewing machine!”

Lesley started off life as a 16-year old apprentice seamstress at Faithful Overalls in Newport, but moved onto furniture in 1985 and found it far more exciting than clothing,

“I’ve been sewing for a long time now, but I still learn new things to this day, especially with the array of furniture we get to work on through our clients.”
